A training program held on the 19th and 20th September 2020, was designed to introduce young professionals to the most popular open source desktop GIS Software tool known as QGIS. Participants were taught basic tips and skills to compile and clean up field data set in MS Excel before displaying on QGIS, basic understanding of the QGIS platform and a more sophisticated way of using QGIS. Exercises and a project assignment was given. Learning outcomes included the following;

  • Clean-up and processing of raw field data in MS Excel
  • Understanding the basic features that QGIS offers as a comprehensive desktop QGIS tool
  • Learning how to use advanced capabilities in QGIS including plug-ins
  • Working on actual real-world projects, with real data to understand the GIS workflow with QGIS
  • Understanding how to complete a number of GIS projects from start to finish.

A Certificate of participation was issued upon completion of the training program.
