Abstract:

Landslide occurrence in Freetown is mostly triggered by rainfall. It decreases soil matrix suction and develops a positive pore pressure, raises soil unit weight and thus reduces shear strength in rocks and soils. This work is aimed at characterising the geotechnical properties of Landslide-prone soils that contributed to the Madina Landslide occurrence. The laboratory-derived soil properties of Madina and Regent Landslides were compared to establish their level of susceptibility to the events.

The DCPT (Dynamic Cone Penetration Tests) (in-situ soil tests) complemented the laboratory tests ….
