The following extracts have been obtained from the constitution of SLIG, to provide an insight into the issues of SLIG’s goals, commitments and long-term functions:
i. Provide effective representation on issues affecting the status and perception of geoscience professions in Sierra Leone.
ii. Cooperate with other professional institutions in addressing matters of common interest to the industry and the public.
iii. Encourage the availability of geoscientific educational opportunities for students at all levels.
iv. Develop and maintain standards for professional practice.
v. Support a knowledge-based culture through continuous education programs and networking opportunities by providing high quality, accessible, relevant short courses, seminars and conferences.
vi. Promote continued professional development of members and foster a culture of achievement through recognition of our members’ contributions to industry and society.
vii. Help to enhance employment opportunities for geoscience professionals.
viii. Contribute to society by promoting safe, visionary practices that embody the principles of sustainable development.
