PREAMBLE
The SLIG expects and promotes the highest professional and ethical standards of its members, having regard for the well-being of the community, the natural environment and the reputation of the institution.
The constitution shall serve as a general guide for the activities of the general membership of the SLIG, where applicable.
The Code of Ethics shall represent the core values of the SLIG and must be endorsed by all members. Members, on admission, commit to the principles set out in the Code. A breach of this Code reported to the SLIG, shall be treated as provided for in the constitution in a manner that conforms to principles of equity, independence, reasonableness and fairness. The purpose of the Code of Ethics is to commit members to uphold and enhance both their personal integrity and the integrity of the profession, and to ensure the highest standing of the SLIG and of its members in the community. No single provision within the Code of Ethics should be construed as imposing any constraint which might be interpreted as anti-competitive behaviour.

In these articles unless there is something in the subject or context inconsistent therewith “Executive Committee” shall mean the executive committee referred to in the policy draft. “Congress” shall mean the body referred to in Article eight. “Director” shall mean those members elected to the Executive Committee under Article six. “Strategic Plan” shall mean the plan prepared setting out the SLIG’s goals, policies and strategies. “The SLIG” shall mean The Sierra Leonean Institute of Geoscientists.
“The Register” shall mean the registers of members maintained by the SLIG. “Year” shall mean calendar year and “month” shall mean calendar month. Words importing the singular include the plural and vice versa.
2. In these Articles “member” shall be deemed to include all persons being members of any of the grades of membership hereinafter referred to, and members of The Executive Committee, sub-Committees, and Congress.
NAME
The name of this organization shall be the Sierra Leonean Institute of Geoscientists “SLIG”
It shall comprise professionally qualified individuals, technicians and students employed in, or undertaking training for a role in any of the geoscience disciplines.
The “SLIG” shall be recognized as the premier organization in Sierra Leone representing a range of qualified scientists and other professionally qualified individuals involved in the full range of activities associated with the geosciences.
