Application

Membership of the Sierra Leone Institution of Geoscientists (S.L.I.G) is open to geoscientists who are engaged in all sectors of Industry, Government, Education and Research. In addition, interested individual members of the public without formal geoscience qualifications but with potential for meaningful input into the Institution may apply for Associate membership. Organizations/Institutions which are interested in Sierra Leone geoscience may apply for Company membership.

The applicant must apply for a particular cadre of membership, and must meet all of the requirements of membership pertaining to thatcadre. Applications will be assessed by the membership committee. Where the committee is not satisfied with the cadre that an applicant applied for, the candidate will be invited to an interview.

All categories of members must abide by the Institution’s Code of Ethics and make a declaration that they have not previously been subject to disciplinary action by a professional Association.

A. What Cadre of Membership should I apply for?

The Grade of membership to apply for may be any of the following:

• Student
• Graduate
• Associate
• Member
• Visiting Member
• Fellow
• Honorary Fellow
• Company Member

A full description of the types of membership is provided in Section D below.

B. Supporting documentation for application

a) CV
b) Certificates of all relevant qualifications declared (certificate, etc.)
c) One Passport photograph

C. Processing Fee

The preferred medium for application is through online submissions to the secretariat. However, hard copies are also acceptable. A processing fee of Le 50,000.00 (fifty thousand Leones) is required at submission of the application. The processing fee for student membership applications is Le10,000.00 (ten thousand Leones).
Please, note that the processing fee is not the annual membership subscription. The annual membership fee or subscription is based on the cadre of membership, and will be required of the candidate after his/her membership has been approved.

D. Annual Membership Subscriptions/fees

The membership subscriptions for 2016 are as shown in Table 1 below. A candidate’s admission into the institution needs to be followed by their payment of this fee. Membership in a given year, with the benefits and opportunities arising from membership SLIG, will be based on the payment of this amount.
