Ansu Katta is a Geologist and Mineral Sector Governance practitioner, with 16 years industry experience in both private and public sectors, with expertise including: Exploration/Mining Geology, Environmental & Social Impact Assessment, Regulatory Compliance & Mineral Sector Governance Practice, as well as Business Development. Over these years he has gained a deep understanding of the technical, legal, regulatory and policy aspects of the Extractive Sector as well as its business and project feasibility metrics.
On the Technical side, Ansu has a reasonable appreciation of various exploration techniques as they apply to mineral deposit discovery and evaluation, with demonstrated success in value-added technical and economic assessment of early-to advanced-stage exploration targets in green and brownfield environments, based on realistic emphasis required, over the course of a mining project life-cycle.
In the Mineral Sector Governance space, Ansu has honed his skills in the understanding of the licensing and sustainability aspects of extractive industries, including international, regional and national instruments related to sustainability, corporate governance, public reporting and compliance based on international reporting guidelines; as well as the international law aspects of extractive industries, including the most relevant treaties and conventions relating to the extractive sector.
Over these years, Ansu gained extensive experience working with, as well as advising industry executives to identify opportunities, secure new projects, negotiate agreements, and design and implement exploration programs; whilst managing risks and overcoming highly sensitive and strategic challenges regarding such projects, especially in Sierra Leone and Liberia. He therefore has a solid experience working at various levels of small, medium, to large-scale extractive industry projects, under highly competitive and demanding circumstances, within both public and private sectors. He is a highly self-motivated team player and effective communicator with demonstrated professional, administrative capabilities and extensive project and corporate management capabilities; as well as stakeholder engagement experience at regional, national and sub-national levels.
Some of the local and multinational mining and exploration companies Ansu has worked for include:Sierra Leone Diamond Company, African Minerals Limited, Jindal Steel and Power Limited, Metalcorp BV; as well as public institutions including: the Ministry of Mines/Sierra Leone-through DFID and World Bank-funded projects, and the Mano River Secretariat, through a GIZ-funded Resource Sector Governance project. He currently provides local Consulting services in mining and related industry business development, including: regulatory compliance, project management, appraisal and development.
Ansu holds an M.Phil. in Extractive Industry Policy, Management, and Regulation from the university of Pretoria, South Africa and a B.Sc. (Honours) in Geology from the University of Sierra Leone.
Salim K. Sillah ( Msc, BSc Hons, FGS). Hold masters degree in mining Geology from Camborne School of Mines, University of Exeter, United Kingdom and a Honours degree in Geology from the University of Sierra Leone and possess over fifteen (15) years of consultancy, advisory, property appraisal and management experiences in mineral exploration and mining throughout Sierra Leone, Naimibia, Ghana, Liberia, Guinea, Guyana ( South America) in positions of responsibilities as country manager, exploration manager, Economic Geology Advisor, Supervising Geologist, Principal Geologist, General Manager Exploration.
He involved at exploration, development, mining and ore processing stages for various mineral commodities in various styles of geological settings and deposit types including orogenic gold and base -metas, columbite/ Tantalite, lateritic nickel-cobalt, Kimberlite (diamond) and alluvial (diamond, coltan, gold) deposits.
Expertise ganered include: Policy analysis, research, Geological property appraisal, area selection, project generation, geochemical and geophysical exploration program design and management, budgeting, geological mapping, drilling supervision, drill core and chiplogging; data compilation, integration and interpretation; remote sensing applications, resources estimation, mineral property valuation, technical reporting and related computer applications
Mr. Mason is a holder of a B.Sc. (Hons) in Geology from the University of Sierra Leone and a Master of Science degree in mineral exploration and geostatistics from the Institute of Aero-space survey and Earth observation (ITC), Delft the Netherlands, now the Faculty of Geo information science and earth observation, University of Twente, in the Netherlands. He is a geologist with 35 years experience in exploration work for alluvial diamonds, gold deposits and mineral sands in the Ministry of Mineral Resources and mining industry in Sierra Leone. He has served in various producing mines as Project Geologist, including the National Diamond Mining Company (86 -90), Sierra Rutile Ltd., West African Diamonds etc. He is experienced in mapping and subsurface investigations and exploration for various types of minerals also geological project management.
In both the NDMC and WAD He also served as a Geologist in the gold exploration programmes. He has served in the Octea Group which is focused on kimberlite mining, Sierra Rutile Ltd, also in CEMMATS GROUP LTD, Consulting Engineers and project management consultants.
In Jan 2016 – May 2017, he served as Geology Specialist in the CEMMATS group engaged in the delivery of various practical courses to regional staff of the National Minerals Agency including: – Monitoring of small and large scale mines, Introduction to geology and minerals, Interacting with stake holders, Administrative procedures and reporting. He also coordinated a CEMMATS managed project for the Geological evaluation and quantification of the rock resource within the quarry precinct of the Gento group of companies at Madina Tombo, in the Freetown Peninsular, Sierra Leone .
During the period 2013 to 2015, he served as a member of the Minerals Advisory Board, which was established as a result of the 2009 Mines and Minerals ACT, and mandated to advise the Minister of Mines and Mineral Resources on the granting of exploration and Mining licenses to companies and individual applicants. He is one of three active Directors of Earth Science Solutions, a company operating in Sierra Leone and providing geological, mining, and geotechnical consultancy services to local industry.
He served in the National Minerals Agency as Director of the Directorate of Geological Survey, 2013 to 2015, and is currently working as a consultant Geologist for various exploration companies.
He holds a Membership in the Sierra Leone institution of Geoscientists. – MSLIG.
Mr. Karim Barrie has over 32 years of experience in mineral exploration, evaluation, and exploration working on Rutile and associated minerals, iron ore, gold and diamonds in West Africa. He joined Sierra Rutile in 1986 as a Junior Geologist. From 1986 to 2007 and later from 2012 to 2014 he worked in the exploration and mineral resource development rising to Senior Geologist, Geology Manager and Exploration manager.
At the Sierra Leone Minerals company, from 2008 to 2009, he served as Head of Geology, exploring for gold, diamonds and iron ore.
From November 2009 to March 2012, he was Manager Mineral Resource Development heading the exploration and mineral resource development teams at the London Mining Company’s iron project resulting in the development and reporting of a JORC compliant indicated mineral resource of over one billion tons of iron ore at over 34% Fe.
Between November 2014 and May 2018, he served as Technical Services Manager for Sierra Rutile Limited, Exploiting the largest natural alluvial Rutile occurrence in the world.
Mr. Karim holds a Bachelor of science degree from Fourah Bay College, the University of Sierra Leone.
Joseph is the Deputy Director of Geological Survey in Sierra Leone and a Geologist with over 15 years’ working experience in the Private and Public Sector in various leadership and technical roles as Project Geologist, Senior Exploration Geologist, Mine Geologist and Chief Geologist at the National Minerals Agency. Joseph is multi-skilled with demonstrable hands-on experience in Geographic Information System technologies and Mapping Applications; geo-scientific data processing and analysis, information and knowledge management systems.
Joseph has a Bachelor of Science degree with honors in Geology from Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone, and an MSc in Geographic Information Systems and Remote Sensing from Centre Universitaire SIG et Teledection in Burkina Faso. He is a member of the Sierra Leone Institution of Geo-Scientists (SLIG) and a member of the West African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (WAIMM), and he has participated in several capacity building training programmes and experience sharing exercises across Africa and beyond, including the United Kingdom.
Before joining the National Minerals Agency (NMA), he worked as Senior Exploration Geologist and Mine Geologist for the African Minerals Limited where he oversaw the transition from exploration to mining.
Massah Koroma (Mrs.) is a Sierra Leonean geologist and is currently a diamond valuer at the Precious Minerals Directorate, National Minerals Agency (NMA), a position she has occupied since May 2014.
Massah has the following educational qualifications: BSc (Hons), Geology, in 1999, Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone; Postgraduate Diploma in Rough Diamond Sorting and Planning at the HRD Antwerp, Belgium, in 2016; Certificate in Sorting of Rough Diamonds, South Africa, in 2003; Diamond Sorting and Valuation, Harry Oppenheimer House, Diamond Academy Kimberly South Africa, in 2008; Rough Diamond Analysis and Basic Valuation techniques, Antwerp World Diamond Centre (WDC), Belgium, 2017.
Massah started her career as an Assistant Teacher and then Head of the Science Department, at the Annie Walsh Memorial School from 1999 to 2007. At Annie Walsh, she taught Biology and other Science related subjects. She also worked as Temporary Teaching Assistant at the Department of Geology, Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone from 2005 to 2007. In 2008, Massah was recruited as Training Graduate and employee at the Government Gold and Diamond Office, National Revenue Authority and was later promoted to the rank of Assistant Valuer from 2008 to 2013. In 2013, she gained employment at the National Minerals Agency as diamond valuer under the Precious Minerals Directorate, an office she worked to date. Massah is an active member of the Sierra Leone Institution of Geoscientists (SLIG) where she enrolled in 2016.
As an Exploration Geologist with a consistent 10 years of work experience in the Mineral Sands Industry, Ibrahim Rogers has been charged with the responsibility of identifying potential mineral resources areas at Sierra Rutile Limited – a wholly owned subsidiary of Iluka Resources, a leading mineral sands company operating world-class assets and producing high quality rutile, ilmenite and zircon from the world’s largest natural rutile deposit in Sierra Leone.
During these years, as part of the company’s strategic objectives, he supported in providing a more sustainable cost base; through effective planning, resourcing and ensuring the implementation and management of all exploration activities over target areas in a timely and efficient manner.
Before those excitement moments, he graduated with a BSc honours (First-Class) in Geology at Fourah Bay College – University of Sierra Leone. As a professional who believes in sustained competitive personal development, he proceeded to acquire essential knowledge on mineral resources management, exploration and mining geology through various institutions such as Jiangxi College (China) and Edumine ( through University of British Columbia – Canada) respectively. He is currently enrolled at the Unicaf University, pursuing a Master’s degree in Business Administration, whilst also pursuing a certification program on Financial Modeling and Valuation Analyst (FMVA) with the Corporate Finance Institute based in the United States.
Bunting Kayode Williams is married to Esther and they have three children, Christabel, Amabel and Gabriel.
Bunting is a geologist, and an environmental management professional with over 10 years of experience in the mineral exploration/mining industry. He has served in various roles, including senior geologist, health, safety and environment officer, exploration manager, and country liaison manager for Nimini Mining Limited in Sierra Leone; geology manager for Jindal Steel Africa in Mauritania and Liberia; and senior project lead geologist for Core Mining Limited in the Republic of Congo. He demonstrated impressive leadership and managerial competencies, as well as integrity and cultural sensitivity in diverse working environments in these countries. He is actively involved with promoting geoscience practice within Sierra Leone.
His passion for sound environmental practices and sustainable mining led to him being given the responsibility to oversee issues related to Health, Safety and the Environment (HSE) in past projects. In this role, he excelled by fostering “a safety culture” and “a clean environment”, particularly in communities where basic health, safety and environment practices were non-existent or were being out rightly ignored.
Bunting graduated from Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone, with a B.Sc. (Hons.) in Geology, in 2004; from the Institute of Public Administration and Management (IPAM), University of Sierra Leone, with a Postgraduate Diploma in Mines Management, in 2015; and from Njala University with a Msc. in Environmental Management and Quality Control, in 2016. He recently completed, in October 2016, an online leadership training from Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) with a special emphasis on Public Policy and Management. He also completed an intensive Mastermind Study on the 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership by the John Maxwell Team and is thus committed to Learning, Living and Leading each of these Laws to the results of adding value to other’s lives.
Bunting lectures Environmental Geology in the Geology Department, Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone, and also currently pursuing an MBA in Global Entrepreneurship at the University of Makeni (affiliated with the University of Milan, Italy).
He is currently one of the founders and Executive Director for JSB Safety Solutions Limited and Managing Director for Kayebunt Geoscience and Management Solutions Limited, whilst also serving voluntarily as Vice Chairman for the Senior Board of Sierra Leone Fellowship of Evangelical Students (SLEFES), Chairman for Gorgeous Stars Mobile Library, and Secretary-General for the Sierra Leone Institution of Geoscientists (SLIG) and Chairman for the CTA of Flaming Nursery and Preparatory School.
