The Sierra Leone Institution of Geoscientists (SLIG) paid a courtesy call and familiarization visit to the office of the Minister of Mines and Mineral Resources on Thursday 5th September, 2019. The Minister, Hon Foday Rado Yokie, welcomed the Executive of the Institution, and acknowledged the relevance of such a professional body towards sustainable development and especially achieving the New Direction agenda.
He furthered that SLIG will be subsequently engaged in the review process of the Mines and Minerals Act, a commitment which was echoed by the Permanent Secretary, Mr Brima Sowa, also in attendance. The leadership of SLIG submitted a copy of a draft bill to the minister, a document that is aimed primarily at regulating the practice of Geosciences in Sierra Leone. They requested the minister’s support and sponsorship towards the desired enactment. Long live SLIG. ©SLIG Secretariat
